I have no idea if this game will gain a following or not. If a community springs up on reddit/discord/whatever, let me know and I might link to it here.
This game is not (yet) open source, but the code is available on GitHub.
You may email questions and bug reports to [email protected]. You may also use GitHub Issues for bug reports and GitHub Discussions for everything else.
Neither the game nor this website collects or stores any personal information. There is no way for you to create an account. If you want, you may enter a nickname to be shown on the Leaderboards. But nicknames are not exclusive; anyone else could choose the same nickname as you.
By default, Block Cipher Z sends replay files of the games you play to this website. This data may be used for the Leaderboards, creating puzzles, training an AI to play the game, or whatever else I feel like doing with it. If you want to opt out of this data collection, the desktop version of the game offers "Offline" mode. If you play in your browser (on this website), there is no way to opt out.
You will need a keyboard, game controller, or similar device to play. Playing on a smartphone will likely be uncomfortable or impossible.
A natural progression for learning the game could be:
Most game controllers should work automatically. If you need, you can use the Controller Setup to remap your controller. Your custom mapping is not saved, so if you make a mistake just restart the game.
You might also consider using AntiMicro to map your controller to the keyboard commands. The default keyboard setup can be found in the Tutorial.
Assuming you have the Edge browser on your Xbox, the Play In Browser option works well.
The Leaderboards showcase the best Score Attack scores. If you have an internet connection and you are not playing Offline (available in the desktop version only), you are automatically eligible to appear on the leaderboards.
If a bug or a server outage happens while you play an amazing game, sorry, that game will not appear on the leaderboards.
For each entry on the leaderboards, you can download the replay file. The desktop version of the game offers "Watch Replay" on the main menu, allowing you to select one of these files and watch the replay. This can be a good way to learn techniques from other players.
